His Sagittarius Sun brings an instinct for exploration and movement, a curiosity for crossing genres and allowing each session to travel somewhere different. His Aquarius Moon adds experimentation and an unconventional relationship to sound · less interested in following a fixed formula and more drawn to discovering new textures, combinations, and ways of listening. A musician and drummer working across different styles and genres, Mattia came to the gong through music. Percussion remains at the foundation of his practice, while gongs, cymbals, and other instruments become tools for creating colour, texture, and evolving sonic landscapes.
Improvisation is central to his approach. Rather than recreating the same experience, Mattia listens to what is already present · the acoustics of the room, ambient noise, silence, the instruments, and the collective energy of the people inside it. Each session becomes an exchange between player, instrument, space, and listener.
For Mattia, music is always an act of giving and receiving. His practice is grounded in respect for the instruments he works with and the musical legacies they carry, while leaving room for experimentation and pure expression in the present moment.
